Preliminary Video: Mystigen

Back story:

The life force of the planet is maintained within the body of a child and in order to stop chaos and discord from engulfing the peace she is guarded by a group of carefully selected, gifted individuals to stop her from being awoken from eternal slumber as well as to keep her identity secret. Only few know who and what she really is. The struggle to keep her a secret over the years has become increasingly difficult which has lead to organisations wanting to both protect her however have completely different ways of doing it.

The scene we shot however includes a meeting that appeared to be between business producers negotiating for a trade when actually it was a White Bishop under cover to find out where the colovers, other business producer, was hiding the Mystigen child. You see that Bayley keeps her calm state of mind because Chloe used to be her apprentice however she saw that the White Bishops has a better motive for protecting the Mystigen Child as well as not being accepted as a Colover so in the end she joined the opposite side.

In the final video this effect worked really well as the light is cast on Chloe’s face and the dark on Bayley as if she’s hiding something as well as being quite a close camera shot. As you can see here we decided to keep this to all one shot so that the dialogue would flow much better while still keeping that intense moment for when Chloe leans into Bayleys face . As you can see in the final shot this also worked very well including the contrast of colours and lighting where the light is beaming from behind Bayley and the darkness is on Chloe’s face. This further has an effect to show that Chloe could be harbouring a dark plan considering what she had just said as well as considering, having her back turned to the light, that she is no longer welcome to the good side. This part of the story board was still crossed over from the last shot’s dialogue however we still stuck with the final picture of Chloe having her back turned to Bayley at a high camera shot so you can see Bayley in the background while seeing half of Chloe’s face. In the final result the effect worked really well and everything came together really well as the shots we took weren’t to slow and to long, they were just right. Also you can still see how the lighting affects the scene with the dark tone on Chloe where as Bayley is more lighter, Linking back to foreshadowing. In the next few shots following the shot before we stuck closely to the story board putting fast paced editing and quick cuts to our advantage to capture the tension in the scene.

As you can see in the final shot the light behind the door causes Chloe’s figure to appear darker as well as the room as a whole, leading to foreshadowing showing that it’s safer to be outside.n contrast to the story board we decided to keep it to Chloe walking through the door however cut out the side view in order to make the tilting effect, where she towers over the camera, more effective. This means by letting it seem as though the antagonist has the upper hand here and that the light is being blocked by her as well as the only way out of the room.
